Bishop Schneider to Pope Francis: For the Sake of Your Soul, Retract Approval of Same-Sex Civil Unions

Bishop Athanasius Schneider
Bishop Athanasius Schneider
“Most Holy Father, for the sake of the salvation of your own immortal soul, for the sake of the souls of all those persons who through your approval of same-sex unions are by their sexual acts grievously offending God and exposing their souls to the danger to be eternally lost, convert, retract your approval and proclaim with all your predecessors the unchangeable teaching of the Church.”

Same-Sex Civil Unions and the Catholic Faith

The Catholic Faith in the voice of the Magisterium of all times, the sense of the faith of the faithful (sensus fidelium) as well as common sense clearly reject any civil union of two persons of the same sex, a union which has the aim that these persons seek sexual pleasure from each other. Even if persons living in such unions should not engage in mutual sexual pleasure — which in reality has been shown to be quite unrealistic — such unions represent a great scandal, a public recognition of the sins of fornication against nature and a continuous proximate occasion of sin. Those who advocate same-sex civil unions are therefore also culpable of creating a kind of structure of sin, in this case of the juridical structure of habitual fornication against nature, since homosexual acts belong to sins which cry to heaven, as the Catechism of the Catholic Church says (see n. 1867). Those who advocate same-sex civil unions are ultimately unjust and even cruel against those persons who are living in these unions, because these persons will be confirmed in mortal sin, they will be solidified in their interior psychological dichotomy, since their reason tells them, that homosexual acts are against reason and against the explicit will of God, the Creator and Redeemer of men.

Every true Catholic, every true Catholic priest, every true Catholic bishop must with deep sorrow and a weeping heart regret and protest against the unheard fact, that Pope Francis, the Roman Pontiff, the successor of the apostle Peter, the Vicar of Christ on earth, uttered in the documentary film “Francesco” that premiered on October 21, 2020, as part of the Rome Film Festival, his support for civil same-sex unions. Such support of the pope means support for a structure of sin, for a lifestyle against the Sixth Commandment of the Decalogue, which was written with the fingers of God on stone tables on Sinai (see Ex.  31:18) and delivered by the hands of Angels to men (see Gal. 3:19). What God has written with His hand, even a pope cannot erase nor rewrite with his hand or with his tongue. The Pope cannot behave as if he were God or an incarnation of Jesus Christ, modifying these words of the Lord: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Mt 5:27-28) and instead of this say, more or less, the following: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’, ‘if a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination’ (Lev. 20:13), ‘men who practice homosexuality will not inherit the kingdom of God’ (1 Cor. 6:9); ‘the practice of homosexuality is contrary to sound doctrine’ (1 Tim. 1:10). But I say to you that for persons who feel same-sex attraction “we have to create a civil union law. That way they are legally covered”.

Every Shepherd of the Church, and the Pope above all, should always remind others of these serious words of Our Lord: “Anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven” (Mt. 5:19). Every pope has to take very much to heart what the First Vatican Council proclaimed: “The Holy Spirit was not promised to the successors of Peter that by His revelation they might make known new doctrine, but that by His assistance they might inviolably keep and faithfully expound Revelation, the Deposit of Faith, delivered through the Apostles.” (Dogmatic Constitution Pastor aeternus, chap. 4)

The advocating of a legal union so that a lifestyle against the explicit Commandment of God, against human nature and against human reason will be legally covered, is a new doctrine, which “sews cushions under every elbow and makes pillows for the heads of persons” (Ez. 13:18), a new doctrine that “perverts the grace of our God into sexual pleasure” (Jude 4), a doctrine which is evidently against Divine Revelation and the perennial teaching of the Church of all times. Such a doctrine is scheming with sin, and is therefore a most anti-pastoral measure. To promote a juridical lifestyle of sin is against the core of the Gospel itself, since persons in same-sex unions through their sexual acts grievously offend God. Our Lady of Fatima made the maternal appeal to all humanity to stop offending God, who is already too much offended.

The following voice of the Magisterium is faithfully echoing the voice of Jesus Christ, Our Divine Master, the Eternal Truth, and the voice of the Church and the popes of all times:

  • “Civil law cannot contradict right reason without losing its binding force on conscience.” (cf. John Paul II, Encyclical Evangelium vitae, 72)
  • “Laws in favor of homosexual unions are contrary to right reason because they confer legal guarantees, analogous to those granted to marriage, to unions between persons of the same sex. Given the values at stake in this question, the State could not grant legal standing to such unions without failing in its duty to promote and defend marriage as an institution essential to the common good” (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Considerations regarding proposals to give legal recognition to unions between homosexual persons, n. 6)
  • “It might be asked how a law can be contrary to the common good if it does not impose any particular kind of behavior, but simply gives legal recognition to a de facto reality which does not seem to cause injustice to anyone. In this area, one needs first to reflect on the difference between homosexual behavior as a private phenomenon and the same behavior as a relationship in society, foreseen and approved by the law, to the point where it becomes one of the institutions in the legal structure. This second phenomenon is not only more serious, but also assumes a more far-reaching and profound influence, and would result in changes to the entire organization of society, contrary to the common good. Civil laws are structuring principles of man’s life in society, for good or for ill. They “play a very important and sometimes decisive role in influencing patterns of thought and behavior”. Lifestyles and the underlying presuppositions these express not only externally shape the life of society, but also tend to modify the younger generation’s perception and evaluation of forms of behavior. Legal recognition of homosexual unions would obscure certain basic moral values and cause a devaluation of the institution of marriage.” (ibid.)
  • “Sexual relations are human when and insofar as they express and promote the mutual assistance of the sexes in marriage and are open to the transmission of new life.” (ibid., n. 7)
  • “By putting homosexual unions on a legal plane analogous to that of marriage and the family, the State acts arbitrarily and in contradiction with its duties.” (ibid., n. 8)
  • “The denial of the social and legal status of marriage to forms of cohabitation that are not and cannot be marital is not opposed to justice; on the contrary, justice requires it. There are good reasons for holding that such unions are harmful to the proper development of human society, especially if their impact on society were to increase.” (ibid.)
  • “It would be gravely unjust to sacrifice the common good and just laws on the family in order to protect personal goods that can and must be guaranteed in ways that do not harm the body of society” (ibid., n. 9)
  • There is always “a danger that legislation which would make homosexuality a basis for entitlements could actually encourage a person with a homosexual orientation to declare his homosexuality or even to seek a partner in order to exploit the provisions of the law” (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Some considerations concerning the response to legislative proposals on the non-discrimination of homosexual persons, July 24, 1992, n. 14)

All Catholics whether they be lay faithful as little children, as young men and young women, as fathers and mothers of family, or as consecrated persons, as cloistered nuns, as priests and as bishops, are inviolably keeping and “fighting for the faith which was once and for ever delivered to the Saints,” (Jude 3), and who are for this reason despised and marginalized at the periphery in the life of the Church of our days, should weep and cry to God that, through the powerful intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, who in Fatima said that people should stop offending God, who is already too offended, Pope Francis may convert and retract formally his approval for the civil same-sex unions, in order to confirm his brethren, as the Lord has commanded him (see Luke 22:32).

All these little ones in the Church (children, young men, young women, fathers and mothers of family, cloistered nuns, priests, bishops) would surely say to Pope Francis: Most Holy Father, for the sake of the salvation of your own immortal soul, for the sake of the souls of all those persons who through your approval of same-sex unions are by their sexual acts grievously offending God and exposing their souls to the danger to be eternally lost, convert, retract your approval and proclaim with all your predecessors the following unchangeable teaching of the Church:

“The Church teaches that respect for homosexual persons cannot lead in any way to approval of homosexual behavior or to legal recognition of homosexual unions.” (Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Considerations regarding proposals to give legal recognition to unions between homosexual persons, n. 11)

“Legal recognition of homosexual unions or placing them on the same level as marriage would mean not only the approval of deviant behavior, with the consequence of making it a model in present-day society, but would also obscure basic values which belong to the common inheritance of humanity. The Church cannot fail to defend these values, for the good of men and women and for the good of society itself.” (ibid., n. 11)

By the incredible approval of same-sex unions through the pope, all the true children of the Church feel like orphans, no more hearing the clear and unambiguous voice of the Pope, who should inviolably keep and faithfully expound Revelation, the Deposit of Faith, delivered through the Apostles.

The true children of the Church of our days might use these words of Psalm 137, saying: We feel as if in exile, by the rivers of Babylon, weeping when remembering Zion, when remembering the luminous and crystal-clear teaching of the popes, of our Holy Mother Church. Yet we unshakably believe in the words of Our Lord, that the gates of hell will not prevail against His Church. The Lord will come, even if He will come late, only in the fourth watch of the night, to calm the storm within the Church, to calm the storm within the papacy of our days, and He will say: “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid. O you of little faith, why did you doubt? And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.” (Mt. 14:27;32-33) Our Lord will say also to Pope Francis: “For what does it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and suffers the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul? For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels: and then will he render to every man according to his works.” (Mt. 16:26-27); and Our Lord will say in addition to Pope Francis: “I have prayed that your own faith may not fail; and that once you have converted, you must strengthen your brothers” (Luke 22:32)

  1. I wholeheartedly agree with Bishop Schneider. Also praying for Pope Francis to retract his statement of approval of same-sex civil unions. The Church holds that civil laws must be moral laws.

    • How can you think the Pope is hand picked by God but think he doesnt spread the message God gave him to spread. God has a plan, no? So he must have changed his invisible mind.

  2. Bishop Schneider, God bless you for your faithful words to all of us who need to be told the truth. Sincerely, Tom Showerman

  3. I had just this week found out that my grandson had a “boyfriend”!! I was devastated and trying to find the right words to explain to him that what he is doing is not going to be embraced by me because of my catholic belief. Then low and behold the POPE tells everyone to embraced this sodomite lifestyle!! Now I am on my own in this valley of tears!! Thank God for a very few bishops standing with me for the truth of Jesus Christ!

    • Dear Nellie, I will pray for you and your terrible heartache, and for your grandson to be enlightened by God’s Truth, and to repent and change. So sorry for your burden.

    • Dear Nellie, we are in the same boat, our only son revealed to us that he is attracted to men two years ago and we felt like he handed down a death sentence to us and since then we were in hiding (literally), cut tied to family, friends and moved away. We were so devastated and went to church to seek help, to no avail, we talked to the Mormons, Seventh-day Adventists, and Jehovah’s Witnesses, but since we’ve moved, we are walking alone in the dark and now with our beloved papa Francis approved and supported this lifestyle, we felt betrayal all over again. The light at the end of the tunnel will never be found! Oh, God! Help Us!

      • Please pray for the Church obviously there Is a lot 100% wrong with this judgement by Franci saint Francis of Assisi was told to go rebuild the Church of his day as it was fallin into ruins its obvious to me there is an attack the church from the very inside and calls into Judgement those cardinals who voted for francis as in the past we have had at least 2 known anti popes one was clement the 5th and the one following him both were put in power by phillip the’ fair’s a zionist entity not Catholic at all there is Truth and falsehood in life we have to use discernment about is really the Holy Spirits Choice and what is most certainly not! I believe in Pope John Paul who was a good man and up until he was attacked by beasts he was able to lead the church before his mental ability to think clearly which is difficult in older people as they age because basically of the unnatural electricity which is everywhere around us and is damaging us daily@ it’s the reason people are getting covid let’s be honest that’s what is causing so much dementia years ago peoples capacity was that they had a lot of Eisdom as the GREW older Sages they were called but now we have dementia the opposite! Think why because of a condition called electrosensitivity which causes entropy in our cells this is a lower level of alienating current frying our cells! This was the stupid idea of people ike Edison einstein Marie curie volta marconi and others particularly the rich who think more about money then peoples safety! This low level equivalent is causing every illness mental and physical under the Sun! Electrosensitivity is talked about by pro.Dominique Bellpomme and pro. Luc Montagier the discoverer of aids being an electrical damage disease like what 5g has done in china in Africa it caused aids because the diet was so poor that 7 different nutrients were missing because alternating currents as used everywhere drain nutrients especially magnesium from our bodies which which prof. Belpomme rightly says is our only DEFENCE against them these fiels – ends cause different conditions in different peoples some people are sensitive to the heart trouble for instance some are the nervous system arthritis etc and some are very CLEVER theirs is mental illness is their weakness Sigmund Freud made out that it was an emotional disease it never has been ever it has been caused by sensitive minds to electric effects as in england the first lunatics were created by the setting up of electric transmitters nearby for the first time ! Before that madness hardly existed except for the rare cases so sensitive to full moons when the magnetic effects effect the minds sensitive Circadian rhythm which happens when the brain is out of magnetic and electric balance this cause dopamine depletion but jetlag occurs before this and that is why we are told if we fly on planes abroad we should go to sleep at the same time as people of that area to correctly adjust our minds circadian rhythm synchronize is the word or we will have a jetlag condition out of sequence also if we fly by plane we set ourselves up with the same amount of radiation as an MRI that frys cells! That’s why nobody survives cancer! Because they use radiation! Mris and ultrasound and X- Ray’s are radiation and this like the alternating current in our houses is basically frying us! and chemotherapy is toxic too! The reason everyone who has cancer dies is these treatments!they produce dopamine reduction and like Belpomme and Montagier the professors know the dopamine falls and straight away prolactin rises and a tumour appears this is to store the poison of radiation treatments or cigarettes our toxic drugs given by doctors or others to stop and erase a tumour reduce the prolactin level it will go naturally! To do this raise the dopamine level – which Belpomme righly says by saying magnesium is our only DEFENCE! He is right because without magnesium chloride we cant make light in the body but we cant do that because we need the dopamine key! Dopamine is made from magnesium chloride this is the form of magnesium to use as the sulphate form is not absorbed as well and it’s best absorbed by the feet that’s why Our Lord Jesus said to the people of Israel wash your feet and your whole body is clean remember the water was hot not boiling! with the Suns heat in Israel the water has a lot of magnesium chloride and that’s why the saying is TRUE youth is beauty and that’s why the women of Israel were so beautiful @ because of that vital nutrient: magnesium chloride which you can buy from intralabs.co.uk sack of 25kg costs just 25 pounds if you buy a small packet of magnesium from health shops here a 1kg packet costs 10 pounds see the savings! The company that sells it here is based in Plymouth. I just used a cup of magnesium chloride every night to cure a woman of dementia in one month! She had been incapable of even speech before that! the only way I could talk to her was making pointed questions and asking her to nod yes or no shake her head back and forth sideways as soon as her bowels started working on the second night it was all easy! Ut the neuroscientist Michael Hamlin heals the dementia in 40 minutes with photobiomodulation! He’s from Harvard the other scientist called harold d. Foster cured Aids and luc Montagier says light is important in healing everything instead of doctors drugs! Because light is made from dopamine and covid is a lack of vitamin D which you need to absorb light! those two Vitamin.D and magnesium are co – factors needing good levels.of each to absorb each other! That’s why covid patients are dying because their levels.of these 2 vital nutrients are too low@. Just like dr Foster found that Cysteine was necessary to fight aids with glutathione which NAC also makes this shows there is a basic deficiency in dopamine as prof HOFFER found Niacin makes dopamine and vitamin c helps absorb it the American MILITARY use NAC – N -Acetyl Cysteine as its otherwise known to cure traumatic brain injury ! and if you look at the website HEALTHLINE it’s used for ocd schizophrenia and bi – polar and addiction are these all are like dr Brian clement and Martin Luther kings widow say on the website maisonsaine that electrosensitivity is the problem!its higher levels EHS which is even worse! Dr. Harold d Foster cured Aids with Cysteine which in the form of NAC also produces gluthionine glutathione a liver and kidney cleanser as well if you look on HEALTHLINE website! It is only by the power of the Cross of Christ whereby He died to set us free from Sin and to bring Salvation through His Death and Resurrection that we receive Forgiveness and Repentance The bible tells us to Call upon the name of Jesus and we shall be Saved, bith us and our household. We are learning from The Holy Spirit about agreements and Covenants we make in life, which at times are passed down to generations upon generations, Henceforth what God says about the inequities of our Forefathers, sins of forefathers.
Call upon Jesus Christ, go straight to Jesus and ask for his help and direction.
May The Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ through His Holy Spirit direct and guide you in the way you should go in Jesus Christ Mighty name.

    • Dear Nellie, You are not alone. My cousin’s daughter who is 27 was married to a woman two years ago. I wrote to her before her wedding to tell her that I will always stand beside her despite her decision and have shown love and acceptance to both ladies. She accepted my decision and so I was not invited to the wedding. As I have a prophetic anointing I was the only one who confronted her. See Ezekiel 3:18 A Watchman for Israel
…17“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from My mouth, give them a warning from Me. 18If I say to the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not warn him or speak out to warn him from his wicked way to save his life, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, and I will hold you responsible for his blood.19But if you warn a wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness and his wicked way, he will die in his iniquity, but you will have saved yourself.…

      • Words matter. Referring to the indecency as “marriage” and the ceremony as “wedding” confers on the “union” and the act a legitimacy that can lead Christ’s “little ones” into scandal or worse. Ever since the U.S. government made laws that redefined the word “marriage” and the concept of “family”, I have instructed my catechists to refer to the sacrament as matrimony, not “marriage”. Far easier to teach sacramental formalism to the young than to have to try to re-educate after the world has infected them with false ideologies when they are older.

    • Dear Nellie, You are not alone. See Ezekiel 3:18 A Watchman for Israel

  4. For one who has come late to the Catholic Church I was disheartened and dismayed to hear the Popes words on same sex Union. It is irrelevant whether it is Francis’ own opinion or not, his words cannot but be construed as being the teaching of the Catholic Church for a lot of people. I too pray for Pope Francis that he will indeed retract his statement, for his own good but especially for the good of those he is supposed to be a shepherd to.

  5. For those of you who still think Bergoglio is Pope, reflect on the requirements for a pontiff to be infallible protected ex cathedra: 1. Speaking of to the universal Church, 2. On matters of Faith and Morals, and 3 intending to bind as an immutable truth of Holy Mother Church. On this and many previous issues, “pope” Francis has attempted to change doctrine and teachings from time immemorial. It is a simple logical syllogism: no pope may change Church teaching. Therefore, Bergoglio is no Pope, but an anti-Pope. Long live Benedict XVI, the one and only pope. With all his faults, weaknesses, and cowardice, he is Peter, and upon that rock Our Lord built his church.

  6. Bishop Schneider’s is a most magnificent appeal to the Vicar of Christ If only all the clergy, who share in Francis’s responsibility to teach the Faith to the faithful and to the world, would assert the actual doctrines of the Church and point out to Francis his deviations from them and the limits of his authority from Christ as first custodian of the Deposit of Faith, with no authority whatsoever to innovate and contradict his predecessors, they would be obedient to Our Lord and merit mercy at their particular judgment. Bishop Schneider’s appeal here is a deeply moving work of charity.

  7. Everyone in this post are a bunch of hypocrites. living comfortably in your little lies and making sure you keep the status quo. You are the problem and the Pope is Right.

  8. Everyone needs to understand what was said in the full context before jumping to conclusions.

Broadcast in the new documentary Francesco, the Pope’s endorsement of same-sex civil union legislation came from an unaired portion of a 2019 interview with the Mexican television broadcaster Televisa.

“The Vatican, which had the full interview in its archives, apparently allowed the comments to be aired now,” the Associated Press reported.

CNA reported that the comment was heavily edited; in the 2019 interview, the Pope also said, “What I said is that they ‘have a right to a family.’ And that doesn’t mean to approve of homosexual acts, not at all.”

New York priest Father Agustino Torres, CFR, has argued that the Pope’s statements, originally recorded in Spanish, have been misinterpreted in English. Father Torres said in the original tape Pope Francis spoke in favour of “civil coexistence,” understood as legal protection for homosexual persons. In English, his words have been misquoted as “civil union law.”

    • Valid points, James Edward.

But why have we not heard this clarification from the Vatican? Surely if Francis’ words were taken out of context, or edited, then he would be most eager to set the hearts of the faithful at peace with a speedy clarification.

From an October 24 CM article: “San Francisco archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone issued a statement Wednesday saying the pope talked about civil unions for gay couples with the bishops of California during their ad limina visit to Rome in January.“

No loving, responsible, grown-up father permits his children to be led astray by any of the words he utters – or is said to have uttered. He will be eager to quickly clarify and ensure the matter is dealt with completely.

This Bishop of Rome has repeatedly uttered ambiguous and misleading words and has not sought to clarify them.
It is a sad thing that faithful Catholics must conclude this is an irresponsible, immature, narcissistic father who seems incapable of properly loving his children.

And if his brother bishops around the world were truly responsible, loving, mature, and brave, they would correct their brother bishop who holds sway over the hearts of millions.

    • Oh.. so just happens to be another example of ambiguity. 7 years of ambiguity.

Why didn’t the pope teach the Faith clearly on this matter as the bishop does here?

    • Thank you for this important clarification of the facts regarding some excerpts taken from Pope Francis’ Spanish interview recorded last year, in 2019.

    • Is there a reason why the Vatican has not already promulgated an official translation of the entire documentary in Latin and English so there can be no mistake about the meaning and context of the documentary and all of its parts?

In fact, why hasn’t the Vatican promulgated official translations and interpretations in Latin and modern languages all of Pope Francis’ interviews and “misquoted/misinterpreted” public comments in order to remove any and all perceptions of ambiguity? Are we battling here once again the spurious “spirit of Vatican II” that has pushed the ambiguity lie for the last half a century?

  9. Any quote from the Holy Father recorded in a documentary is not considered or admissible as an official papal teaching. At any rate, the Catholic Church’s constant teaching on marriage remains unchanged regardless of a civil union between two persons of the same sex approved by the State.”

  10. It will take another generation before LGBTQ people are fully embraced and welcomed in the church. But his Holiness’ support for civil unions will no doubt be one of the landmarks cited by future generations when tracing the trajectory of acceptance. Let’s hope all who are troubled will soon realize there really is nothing to fear.

    • No, sorry, that will never happen. At least the way you think. Homosexuals are beloved in the Church, but you refuse to admit that. You seem to think that the biblical prohibitions on homosexual behavior are up for debate. They are not. Never can this sinful behavior be condoned. Not by a priest, not by a bishop, not by a pope. What will happen is that those afflicted with same sex attraction will gradually come to see that engaging in homosexual behavior is self defeating and makes them even emptier than before. That is the way history is moving.

  11. Thank you Bishop Schneider! I deeply appreciate your faithful and thoughtful response to the situation at hand. I earnestly pray for Pope Francis and for Christ’s Holy Church. My heart is aching!

  12. Brilliant. Thanks be to God for Bp. Schneider. It is a firm statement with true charity. He is in my prayers, and I pray for the conversion of Francis.

  13. He is an Anti Pope. I doubt if he will repent and apologize. The best he will do is to say; I was misquoted. Yet, there is compelling proof that he actually pushed for civil unions for gays in Argentina. Secondly, as the bishop of Rome and as a Bishop in Argentina he has allowed divorced people in adulterous unions to receive Holy Communion openly, as a way of “mercy” without repentance for people in such unions.
Thirdly, In his papacy he cleverly brought the gay agenda through the Amoris Laetitia, Later on he wanted to wipe out sacrificing priesthood by allowing all caliber of people to serve as priests In the Amazon region (if it had succeeded, it was going to be replicated all over the world).
Forthly, he allowed Pachamama (goddess) worship at St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican.
Forthly, he retained the disgraced cardinal mccarrick even when there were several claims about mccarrick’s active involvement in paedophile and sexual abuse in America.
Fifth, his appointment of cardinals and people in key positions in the Vatican is made up of majorly people of questionable integrity.
There’s no doubt Pope Francis belongs to the deep state of the Vatican and he is the devil’s advocate in making sure the Church of Christ is tone down to nothing. He is out to make sure that evil is made virtous, ie crimes such as gay/ arbortion, Murder etc can be “civilized” by Legislation.
He is a Catholic heretic in the sense that he addresses virtue and vice in the same dimension, hence he is an individual who chooses to believe what suites himself and his clique of friends against the divine teachings of the Holy Catholic Church.
A good shepherd cares for the souls of his sheep, he fasts, he condemns evil, he apprehends, he prays and asks for repentance, he calls for sacrifice on his part and the part of the faithfuls as there can never be religion without sacrifice.

    • you are so right does he not believe whats in the bible about this? God condems this behavior & those who induge in it will be condemd by God unless he repents his soul will go down to he fires of hell. This pope will be he cause of so many lost souls. God have mercy

  14. He is a very Liberal man. Check out his life in Argentina. The next will be his being in favor of Abortion. Sad that he was ever elected.

  15. Supporting Bishop Schneider’s remarks. Reflecting on how Pope Francis may
clarify what was apparently an unjust representation of his remarks; quoting
him out of context to advocate for a self-serving ideological agenda. One clarification
would be, civil unions are not necessary for people to attain benefits (health insurance, power of attorney, living will, transfer on death (TOD), etc. Perhaps educating the public regarding these matters, and perhaps making health care plans and end of life instructions and planning can be offered/facilitated through faith communities, and families of origin; while encouraging chastity according to vocation and state in life.

  16. As an older lifelong Catholic single woman (non-consecrated), I agree with the doctrinal issues as written by this author. Unfortunately, however correct the teaching, the article is utterly tone-deaf and non-pastoral in one very important way. Author takes care to name all official categories of the faithful (children, “young” men and women, sacramentally married parents, consecrated adults, and clergy and religious). There is an enormous swath of humanity omitted here…that is, older, single, non-consecrated men and women who are, often through no fault of their own, unable to get married and/or have no call to consecrated or religious life.) Whether these folks have same- or opposite-sex attraction and what privileges civil laws afford them is almost beside the point. The real point is that the Institutional Church is utterly deaf, blind, and mute to the pastoral needs of these good and faithful people. The Church needs to be more responsive to older single adults, those who do not fit the mold, for whatever reason, of clergy/religious, sacramentally married or consecrated life. These people have lives to live and needs for social and emotional belonging. The most that the institutional Church does is to tell them what they can’t have and can’t do. How about extending Christian compassion and inclusion for those who must exist in what is a gargantuan blind spot of the Church. You

    • The Roman Catholic Church is about one thing and one thing only: getting you to eternal life. That is your and everybody’s one and only pastoral need. “Social and emotional belonging” – there’s plenty of tennis/bowls/bridge/sewing/music/gardening etc. clubs waiting for you to join if that is what you are missing. But don’t take my word for it:

      “Save your soul!”
      – St Alphonsus Liguori

      “Grow where you are planted.”
      ― St. Francis de Sales

      • Sorry, author discusses “all Catholics” and then names his own itemized list of the faithful *twice,* so there is absolutely no mistaking who makes the list and who doesn’t. He *twice* itemizes children, young men and women, sacramentally married parents, clergy and religious as “all Catholics. Ignored is a vast swath of humanity known as older, infertile, nonconsecrated Catholics, who are, in a not a few cases, utterly heroic in leading chaste, celibate lives, and without the support of a spouse, children or religious community—yet, these good people do not make the list. This is not about bowling or gardening. This is typical exclusionary narrative by the institutional Church, extremely alienating and hurtful to those marginalized by it. In case, you misread my message, I agree that there should be no civil unions. But no wonder that some people want to form alternative families in an attempt, however misguided, to “belong.” Older, single, non consecrated Catholics are beset with a narrative that extinguishes us from existence. And it would be great if we could somehow be included as at least a footnote on “the list.” Maybe call us “junior Catholics?” (at least until we become so discouraged that we take our Sunday attendance and offerings to the Episcopal or Anglican churches.

    • Excellent. Well expressed. My cousin is a priest and unfortunately he has the sentiments of the absolute as stated by Institution of the Catholic church. He does not know that I have been anointed by God, spiritually gifted, and worship with Pentecostals where I am called to the healing and deliverance ministry, whilst at the same time keeping a low profile among Catholics when I attend the sacraments. My cousin has not undergone deliverance so he is limited spiritually. He does not know this but believes he has no right to companionship of a lady as he is a priest whilst I can seek such a companion as I am single. What he suggests is an offence to God who has called me to be holy as he has called all Catholics. Jesus is my companion.

  17. Whether Catholic, protestant, muslim or other religion we all have a built in concscience knowing what is right or wrong. We know stealing is wrong, murder is wrong even if no one tells us.
    Same sex union is wrong.
Lets pray for our dear Pope to retract. In my mind maybe he is being pushed against the wall by people pushing for their own agenda ,so lets pray for Pope Francis to have the strength to resist.

  18. Deeply troubled by the comments made by the Pope who is supposed to be the mouthpiece of Jesus on earth. Misquoted? Misinterpreted? Good Lord. What is there to retract? You have spoken without regard to what the scriptures have to say. I am devastated by his remarks. Is this the way to interpret – Whatsoever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven ?? Come Lord Jesus come. Come soon.

  19. “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but having itching ears they shall heap to themselves teachets in accordance with their own lusts.” 2 Timothy 4:3.

  20. What ever happened to ‘love the sinner but hate the sin’.Catholics do not lose heart ,pray without ceasing , and the gates of hell will not prevail.Heresies were there in the past and they will be there in the future, until the LORD returns. Also I haven’t heard from our US bishops .

  21. I think that James Van Heyden, characterized the situation with Francis most accurately and putting it into context with his exposition of his 5/or 6 points with respect to Francis history on this subject: i.e. “Who Am I to Judge”, further surrounding himself with a variety of seemingly criminal-minded prelates as in the total mis-management of the Vatican Banks and its various accounts, notwithstanding was it Agentina or another LatinCountry wherein all the Bishops submitted their resignations resulting in their association with Child/Adolescent/Young Adult Seminarians Sex Abusse issues, as well as the disastrous handling of the MacCarrick Crisis which still has enormous repercussions and a whole list of similar prelate colleagues of MacCorrick, Derden of Chicago, the Arbp/Card of Detroit, Francis to me speaks with a fork tongue. Moreover lest we forget the The CrackCocaine Orgie in the Vatican which nothing was done about it..Period, No represils, no call to repentance! Really all of this should be sufficient evidence that the Vatican in invested with Satan and Demonic delusion of the first order and it hasn’t been spiritually excersized to date! Thank God for courage men like Vigano, Burke, and Snieder.

  22. Thank you for standing up for the teaching on marriage and family life. Jesus was compassionate and he loved all especially sinners. Pope Francis has compassion and understands and loves sinners. He is not proposing that these marriages of gay people will be blessed after a civil ceremony nor will they marry in church. Pope Francis has a difficult task in modern times. In earlier generations there was the problem of unwed mothers and illegitimate children. The Irish nuns and priests as well as Catholic families disowned their unwed daughters who had children out of wedlock. In the present day some Catholics do the same when they find out their child is in a gay relationship. For transgender people to remain chaste and celibate is difficult. I pray for better understanding for what Pope Francis is trying to do. Unity in a divided church. I pray.

    • What Pope Francis is trying to do is change the definition of the term “a family”. He can’t change the doctrine of the Church head on, as he would like to do. So if he can make it OK for all sorts of hitherto inadmissible combinations of people to be called “a family” then acceptance of the underlying physical conduct will follow. He forgets one thing: God neither deceives nor is deceived, and He is the same yesterday and today. Here is the rub: Sacred Scripture and Church teaching is crystal clear that the perpetrators of certain types of sin will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. You are quite right, there is disunity in the Church. The dividing point is at death: only few find their way through the narrow gate into eternal life and the rest are punished in hell for all eternity. That’s Catholic doctrine and let no slime-ball tell us otherwise. Charity compels this dreadful reality to be pointed out so that people look beyond just this life, as if this life is all there is. It is Pope Francis’s job to insist upon this in season and out of season. He is failing badly. WAKE UP HOLY FATHER before it is too late for your soul!

    • Is it not equally difficult for persons with properly-ordered sexual appetites to remain chaste within their vocation or celibate if they choose to make this vow?

    • A divided Church is the result of many succumbing to the lure of evil in the world. Ignorance, propaganda and ideology fed to those in school under the guise of education, a will to conform to the zeitgeist, peer pressure, media influences, and more are evils to be combatted by those who are willing to do the hard work of learning what it means to conform one’s will to the will of God. Is a unity which consists of betrayal of the Church a unity to be sought after? Consider the Chinese who, without a lick of succor from the Vatican, are forced to worship the Communist state in their churches before the tabernacle of the living God. Many will not bow down to the pagan Communist god, but instead choose to suffer unspeakable persecutions. Do these freely choose martyrdom, or has it been forced upon them by a Vatican which appears to believe that eliminating millions of Catholics is the best road to unity?

Advents.

  24. I am genuinely sad that The Holy Father should take such action as supportive of same-sex unions. With right reason and obeying the natural law which inculcates ‘ marriage ordained by God for all humanity’s well-being ,it is impossible to square that with
contrary statements from our pastor, Pope Francis.
